Self-Defense: “Practice the fight so that you don’t have to” is a phrase that is often used to describe the self-defense benefits of training. It refers to the fact that as a member becomes more confident in their ability to defend themselves through kickboxing training, the need to defend themselves automatically decreases. This is because they unconsciously begin to carry themselves in a more confident manner and that confidence is projected to those around them, making them less vulnerable to predatory behavior.
Children are taught how to recognize a potentially dangerous situation and how to avoid confrontations. On top of that, our training includes strategic self-defense as well as actual self-defense.
Personal Development: In most sports, you learn life lessons such as “teamwork” and “being a good sport”. But those are secondary to the sport itself. The goal in those sports is to win games. This is one big area that our program differs from other athletic activities. The life skills children learn with us are not by-products of the training, they are the curriculum!
Athletic Enhancement: Kickboxing offer several advantages. First, it is amazingly effective in enhancing general coordination because it uses every part of the body in a balanced way. Upper body, lower body, right side, left side, forward movement, lateral movement, rotational movement, it’s all included in kickboxing training.
Our members discover that they’re capable of much more than they thought possible. Developing the courage to take on challenges that might have intimidated them before. They learn this in their training, and they apply it at school, work and at home.
Through regular conditioning, members come to realize that physical and mental perseverance go hand in hand, and not to let self-doubt get in the way as they strive harder and longer to reach their goals.
Fitness: The three pieces of the fitness puzzle are strength, flexibility and endurance. Kickboxing training demands a balance between the three. Therefore, our members will find their deficiencies greatly enhanced. Also, because of the balance in the three pieces of the fitness puzzle, they are less likely to injure themselves while participating in other athletic endeavors.
Health: Martial arts training is a proven link to better health for people of all ages, but especially children for several reasons. First off, it is great exercise. But because it is fun, kids don’t mind doing it. Discussing diet and lifestyle habits with students is a part of our training, so children develop healthy habits that will stick with them for life.
Improved Focus & Self-Discipline: Most children are easily distracted and have relatively short attention spans. Our members learn to “zero in” on critical tasks at hand and develop the ability to stay on task. Normal childhood distractions don’t get in their way. They learn to make eye contact with classroom teachers and pay full attention.
As they develop the ability to maintain focus, our members learn to develop self-control. In learning the precision of our physical skills, members develop a high level of self-discipline.
Due to the fact that kickboxing teaches techniques that could be harmful to others, we are obliged to stress the importance of respect, courtesy, and restraint. It has been proven time and again that people who are skilled in martial arts tend to be extremely respectful, considerate and composed.
Confidence: We have no bench sitters. Everyone participates and is evaluated not against others but more importantly, against their own potential.
We set people up for success by giving them a series of realistic, short term goals that they can attain quickly (colored belts) while keeping them focused on an exciting, long term goal (Black Belt). Confidence improves until our members believe that with hard work and dedication, they can accomplish just about anything.
