Aikido is a Japanese martial art often translated as “the Way of unifying (with) life energy” or as “the Way of harmonious spirit.” Aikido is performed by blending with the motion of the attacker and redirecting the force of the attack rather than opposing it head-on.

Konsei Aikido students study how to take full proactive control in challenging interactions with calm and confident actions by redirecting attacks and challenges in a gentle and harmonious manner, instead of responding as fearful victims or aggressive fighters.

In real life, these same techniques often allow us to turn “opponents” into allies and supporters by creatively aligning their interests with ours. The ultimate goal for all our Aikido clients is to learn techniques and concepts that can be use to defend themselves while also protecting their attacker from injury.

Skills Practiced:

  • Physical:   Balance, Energy Extension (Ki/Chi), Timing, Rhythm, etc.
  • Emotional:  Impulse Control, Diffusing Tension, Empathy, etc.
  • Mental:  Concentration, Focus, Observation and Intuition.

Examples of Benefits in the Areas of:

  • Self-defense:  Greater confidence, control, and intuitive response.
  • Relationships:  Deepen personal relationships and break the cycle of recurring arguments.
  • Work:  Greater ability to handle office and management politics.
  • School:  Increased ability to focus by reducing inner turmoil.
  • Creativity: Develop techniques to enhance creativity and intuition.
  • Leadership:  Envision solutions and build the charisma and confidence to lead.

Ki Class explores the principles behind Aikido by practicing self-awareness and control on physical, emotional, and mental levels.   We practice applying that awareness to interactions with others not only in physical self-defense, but also in the frequent and usually unwanted emotional and mental “sparring matches” that take place at work, in school, or at home.

We learn to tune into our partner/opponent and to diffuse and redirect the conflict before it escalates.

While the principles studied in both the Konsei Aikido and Ki Class advance the practice of most martial arts, the real goal is to provide students with tools that they can apply in daily life whether that is at home with parents, children, or siblings, at school with friends or teachers, or at work with employees, managers, or customers.

Our Aikido class is for Teens and Adults.
