Konsei Martial Arts

“acceptance of all styles”

The curriculum at our Academy has evolved over the past two decades from a single style system to a unique blend of leading martial arts styles and teaching methodology concepts. Our curriculum places strong emphasis on valuable life skills such as perseverance, focus and self-discipline. As a result, students learn highly effective self-defense strategies while they experience new levels of confidence and empowerment.

Most styles of martial arts tend to focus on individual areas of self-defense and philosophy. Konsei Martial Arts combines techniques and principles from a variety of Martial Arts including Taekwondo, Kenpo Karate, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Aikido and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu which provides our students with a well-balanced, “street smart” self-defense system.

Konsei Martial Arts, which loosely translated means “acceptance of all styles”, is the umbrella name we use to refer to our system of combining the best of many styles into a blended system providing all students with a well-rounded martial art education and experience.

There are four primary Martial Art systems that create the core of Konsei Martial Arts:

Taekwondo: We draw from Han Gil Taekwondo, which is a traditional style of Taekwondo, for Poomse/Kata (form) practice, which places the focus squarely on enhancing the student’s balance, agility, coordination, flexibility, range of motion, strength and endurance.

Known for kicking and dynamic forms, Taekwondo is very popular with all ages, but appreciated differently by children, teen and adults. Children love the high energy that Taekwondo training has to offer. There is never a dull moment in our children’s classes when Taekwondo is the focus of instruction. Teens thrive on the dynamic elements associated with Taekwondo; the jump kicks and spin kicks. Adults appreciate the full body workout they get when practicing the various elements of Taekwondo. Although TKD’s primary defensive weapon is the largest and strongest muscle group in our body – the legs, Han Gil Taekwondo places an equal amount of emphasis on the use of hands and arms for blocking and striking which enhances our members defensive skills in a practical way.

Kenpo Karate: Known for having some of the best blocking and striking techniques that can easily be assimilated into our members’ muscle memory. Kenpo concepts are taught to our students for self-defense purposes.

We teach age appropriate self-protection and self-defense skills to all our members and temper what we teach to all members with what we call “litigious conscience self-defense” which is an awareness of the legal issues and consequences of our actions when defending ourselves or others.

Despite volumes of statistics, there is little information available on how we can prevent ourselves from becoming a victim; perhaps due to the notion that violent attacks “come out of nowhere!” and cannot be avoided. That assumption is wrong. Detectable warning signs precede nearly all assaults; people just need to learn how to recognize them. Our defensive tactics instruction provides all our members with a solid defensive base and realistic self-protection system.

Kickboxing & Muay Thai: Kickboxing teaches our members’ defensive concepts and techniques used in all ranges of stand-up self-protection while getting them into great shape.

The Konsei program focuses on fundamental Kickboxing and Muay Thai techniques with an emphasis on refining the proper body mechanics of each technique while developing distancing, timing, targeting, rhythm and muscle conditioning. This type of training is very popular among all members.

Weapons Training: In our society, the need for weapon defense and weapons training is a reality. Whether confronted with an attacker wielding a knife or stick, training with traditional martial art weapons gives Pecoraro’s Academy of Martial Arts members the knowledge needed to be confident and safe.

The Junior and Teen students train with the exciting Nunchaku. This tool was first made famous in 1973 by the legendary Bruce Lee. Nunchaku training gives young students the energy and excitement that keeps them focused but teaches them enhanced coordination, symmetry and self-control. Junior Black Belt members also train with the Bo Staff and Escrima Sticks.

Adult students train Escrima which is a Filipino Martial Art that emphasize stick and blade defense. The purpose of this training is never to teach aggression but to give our members the knowledge they need to keep safe in a threatening situation.
